Murder Mystery Of Bonny Lee Bakley
Blake and his new wife Bakley celebrated their first wedding anniversary at Vitello’s Italian Restaurant in Studio City, California, on May 4, 2001. At the time, Blake told authorities that he and the victim had walked to the car together after their meal but that Blake had returned to the restaurant to collect a revolver he had left on the table.
According to Blake, he saw Bakley sitting in their car as he exited the building, bleeding heavily from two bullet wounds. Though they had various leads to pursue, the police eventually settled on Blake, and eleven months later, they successfully apprehended him.
Two counts of solicitation of murder and one count of murder with exceptional circumstances of lying in wait were filed against Blake in connection with Bakley’s killing. After months of incarceration following his not-guilty plea, he was released on bond pending trial. Blake did not have the gun found in the dumpster and used in the murder.
Blake has always denied any involvement in the murder, and authorities have never been able to connect him or anyone else to the murder weapon. Nonetheless, prosecutors have maintained that Blake had initiated a scheme to have her killed. Blake gave an interview to Barbara Walters of ABC News in 2003 while he was serving time. The interview was used by the prosecution in the beginning of the case, but Blake’s lawyers used it to their favor by using it to humanize their client.
