What The Owner of The Company Said
“Most of what we do is private label, so we manufacture a lot of the products you might buy at the grocery store. So those contracts often preclude us from being able to tour people through,” says Douglas David, the business owner.
“Our customers are pretty sensitive about their brands, so I don’t think there’s going to be a tremendous element that’s going to be public-oriented for this project.”
David is the owner of David Delights LLC. He also owns Behr’s Chocolates. David mentioned this at a recent Groveland planning and zoning board meeting.
Although there will be no public tours, the new chocolate factory will bring new jobs to the Groveland community — though it’s unclear how many new positions will be created.
In April 2022, the company paid $4,85 million for two adjacent parcels on the site, as the Lake County Property Assessor reported.
The Groveland City Council approved the annex and rezoning of the property at its June 19, 2022, public meeting. The zoning of the property was changed from Lake County Light Industrial to Groveland Light Industrial, with the second and final vote scheduled for the July 17, 2022, Groveland City Council meeting.

Chocolate Factory to Create Dozens of Jobs
According to Behr’s Chocolate’s owner, the company will be adding jobs to the area due to the expansion. The number of employees has yet to be finalized.
Behr’s Chocolates currently utilize the Groveland site for the distribution of its products. However, the building expansion is intended to bring manufacturing and distribution to the site.

The new Ghirardi Chocolate factory is set to be built on a 30,000-square-foot light industrial building that will be renovated and expanded from its current 58,000 square feet. The property is located on the north side of Groveland on Obrien Road near the intersection of the Turnpike and US. 27.
“Groveland is not only a city of natural charm, but it has also become an attractive choice for companies seeking great industrial space,” Mayor Evelyn Wilson said to GrowthSpotter. “It’s bringing new employment opportunities to our residents, and we love that.”
Factory to Bring Sweet Smell to Town
The chocolate factory will produce a variety of chocolates, including truffles, bars, and other confections. It will also offer tours and tastings for visitors.
The sweet smell of chocolate is sure to waft through the air in Groveland when the factory opens.
