Paul Duncan, a Notre Dame football legend and former NFL player, has died at the age of 35. From 2005 to 2009, he was a member of the Fighting Irish offensive line.
After his passing, the school issued a statement on its social media accounts reading:
“Our prayers go out to the family and friends of Paul Duncan. A great teammate, but more importantly a loving husband and father.”

Like former running back for the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears Marion Barber III, he is the latest former NFL player to pass away this year. Last month, the police went to Barber III’s apartment in Frisco, Texas for a welfare check and discovered him lifeless. He was 38 year old.
The former running back had reportedly been hospitalized two time for mental health issues before his death. When asked why his son didn’t want his brain donated to science so that it might be tested for CTE, Barber III’s father said:
“He was real specific in his will that he didn’t want that. We are going to respect that. But in the condition his body was in, according to the examiner, that probably would have been a moot point because of the decomposition.”
Linebacker Jaylen Ferguson, 26, of the Baltimore Ravens, was another NFL player we lost this year. An autopsy determined that Ferguson died of a combined cocaine and fentanyl overdose.

What Killed Paul Duncan And His NFL Career?
Ellen Duncan, Paul’s wife, posted a statement on his death on Instagram, reading:
“Yesterday, Friday July 15th, Paul went into cardiac arrest while on a run in our neighborhood. Today he was pronounced brain dead. We will have a medical examination to understand cause of death. His body will be donated to people in need of organs and to medical research. Thank you for your prayers and support.”

After graduating from Notre Dame, he entered the NFL for a short while with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent. His wife Ellen and their two daughters will carry on after him.
