Actor Jack Axelrod has passed away. He was best known for his 1980s role as mob leader Victor Jerome on “General Hospital” and his guest appearances on “Grey’s Anatomy,” “My Name is Earl,” and many more television shows. His advanced age was 93 years.
Jennifer Garland, Axelrod’s representative, informed the media that he passed away on November 28 in Los Angeles from natural causes. “I had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with him in his last years, as he had no immediate family,” Garland said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly.
“We spent much time outdoors, where Jack loved to sketch, read news articles, and recite Shakespearean sonnets.” In his military career, Axelrod, who was born on January 25, 1930, held the rank of corporal. According to Variety, he served in Germany from 1953 until 1955.
Following his time in the military, Axelrod attended UC Berkeley with a major in design and simultaneously sought a career in acting. He spent six years honing his craft at New York City’s Herbert Berghof Studio, where he studied under the tutelage of Tony Award winner Uta Hagen

From 1987 through 1989, he appeared in forty episodes of the nighttime drama “General Hospital” on ABC. He was on “My Name is Earl” as Electrolarynx Guy and other characters, and he was on “Grey’s Anatomy” as a semi-comatose patient who had a strange end.
“Dallas,” “Dynasty,” “Night Court,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” are among his other prominent credits.
“Macbeth” (Shakespeare) was staged off-Broadway in 1969 starring Axelrod, who also had a role in the Broadway production of “Gandhi” (which closed on opening night) and a long career in film and television.
He was a theatrical professor at numerous schools, including Penn State, UW–Whitewater, BU, and Michigan. In 2020, his final feature, “Bad Therapy,” starring Michaela Watkins, Rob Corddry, and Alicia Silverstone, was released. Axelrod portrayed a physician.
