In a devastating turn of events, tragedy strikes as a Buffalo Grove woman loses her life following a vehicle crash in Wheeling. The collision not only claimed her life but also left another victim trapped in the wreckage. According to officials, a two-vehicle crash in Wheeling left two persons trapped and severely damaged, along with a 25-year-old Buffalo Grove woman dead.

At around 10:23 p.m. on Wednesday, the Wheeling Police Department and Fire Department arrived at the intersection of Northgate Parkway and Lake Cook Road, which is the boundary between Wheeling and Buffalo Grove municipalities.

According to Wheeling Fire Chief Scott Salela, there was an initial report of a car crash with entrapment in the vehicles.

The head-on collision occurred just west of the intersection, according to a 911 caller who saw the accident. When firefighters got there in five minutes, they discovered two seriously damaged cars. According to Salela, both vehicles had victims trapped inside.

According to Salela, both victims were extricated and given medical attention by fire department staff. Within twenty minutes, both victims were freed and taken to the hospital in ambulances.

Salela stated that one of the victims passed away from their wounds while still in the hospital. The condition of the second victim was not disclosed. The deceased victim, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, was a Buffalo Grove lady whose age was 25. There are plans to do an autopsy.

During the incident, Wheeling fire stations were covered by the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District and the Glenview Fire Department.
