Captivating the King Episode 16 Recap
The King defies his mother’s pleas to shield Mong-woo in Episode 16 of “Captivating the King,” causing tensions to rise. The Qing Emperor’s interest in Hee-soo is also revealed simultaneously. Inspector General Je-nam believes differently and suggests sending Hee-soo to Beijing to maintain peace, even though the King has promised not to.
During a game of Baduk, Hee-soo convinces the King to let her leave for Beijing with the help of Je-nam, who assures him that she will return safely. With three days to meet Hyun-bo, Dal-ha is determined to get retribution for Hongjang’s death. Sang-hwa has set him this deadline.
In his pursuit of revenge, Dal-ha regrettably causes Hyun-bo’s death by accident. When Myung-ha tells Hee-soo the truth, she finally gets some peace of mind because she knows Dal-ha was involved.
A parting present is bestowed upon Hee-soo by the King just as she prepares to depart. In a final act of devotion, before she leaves, Hee-soo spends the night with the King. The monarch returns his attention to his responsibilities and closes his private Baduk arena.
After leaving Joseon to join the Qing, Je-pyo makes a triumphant return to Joseon society nine months later. While plotting his vengeance behind Je-pyo’s back, the king acts amicably toward him.
Prince Rui’s death, meantime, returns the princess, who had been surreptitiously replaced by a maid. Reluctantly, Hee-soo returns, choosing to meet with Myung-ha alone. Upon the arrival of the Qing envoy, they insist that the King release Je-pyo, who had betrayed them too.
The remainder of the King’s previous betrayals causes him to refuse, despite Je-pyo’s pleadings. The following day, Hee-soo embarks on a solitary quest, where she hears an enigmatic noise.
