Born on March 18, 1962, in Baltimore County, Maryland, Mike Rowe grew up with his parents, John and Peggy Rowe, both educators. During his youth, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in Troop 16 in Overlea and regularly volunteered to read to children at the Maryland School for the Blind.
These experiences sparked his interest in writing and narration. After graduating from Overlea High School in 1980, where he was active in singing and acting, Rowe continued his education at Essex Community College before earning a degree in communication studies from Towson University in 1985.
