What Happened in Episode 4?
There are three distinct subplots in Episode 4 of Expats. The story revolves around the main characters and the challenges they face. All three of them occur within a confined space. The lighthearted affair between Mercy and David is about to take a major turn.
Mercy is having second thoughts about her life choices and is beginning to wonder if her relationship with David is short-lived. Eventually, she’ll have to stop worrying about him. But David doesn’t care.
Even though he and Hilary’s marriage is officially terminated, he is still confused about his future. He doesn’t need to worry about it because of his privileged position. In preparation for an intense sexual encounter, they partake in an insulting contest in which they reveal personal details about one another.
David goes too far, though, when he brings up Gus and makes her go hide in the loo. She finds solace in David’s admission that he paralysed his twin brothers as children. At this point, she isn’t the sole untidy person present.
The news that Mercy is pregnant throws everything into disarray for David and him. Hilary is unable to procreate. While we’re on the subject, Hilary is thrilled to have her domineering mother Brinder visit from India.
Tilda, another neighbor, and the two of them become locked in the lift at The Peak. Despite their best efforts, the repair staff will still have to wait a few more hours before they can depart.
Without taking Tilda’s presence into account, Brinder scolds Hilary for not wanting to start a family and stay home with her ailing father. After bearing her father’s adultery and cruelty for so long, Hilary finally gets even with Brinder for keeping the family together.
At the coroner’s office, Margaret and Clarke learn that the corpse is Gus’, but they react differently to the news. Despite the stability of their marriage, Gus’s abduction has been a devastating blow. Margaret refuses to accept that the corpse belongs to Gus, while Clarke, who is more grounded in reality, sobs uncontrollably.
