Lake County has gotten a big boost to building up its infrastructure: $1.9 million has been set aside for public works projects. This money is expected to make important changes all over the area, which has residents and stakeholders excited and interested.

The community is looking forward to seeing how these investments will change things, so it’s important to learn what improvements it might make to the county’s important public assets.

A bill that President Biden signed into law on March 9 says that Lake County will get more than $1.9 million. The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024 includes government money for two building projects in Lake County Public Works:

  • Idlewild and Dady & Decker Water Main Replacement: A new water main 10,000 feet long will be put in the Idlewild and Dady & Decker neighborhoods in rural Grayslake. These villages are commemorating their centennials, and in order to ensure that they will continue to have access to water in the future decades, upgrading is essential.
  • New Century Town Water Reclamation Facility Upgrades Project:  The New Century Town Water Reclamation Facility in Vernon Hills will get new wastewater treatment equipment that is up to date. This plant cleans up drainage from thousands of homes and companies in Lake County. It is owned and run by Lake County Public Works.

As part of a government program called Community Project Funding, US Representative Brad Schneider (IL-10) sent these ideas to Congress earlier this year for them to think about.

Sandy Hart, Chair of the Lake County Board, said, “We can’t thank Congressman Schneider enough for fighting for these important projects. Continued investments in public works infrastructure is one our top priorities because it’s crucial for ensuring access to safe drinking water.”

Through its Legislative Committee, the Lake County Board often works with area lawmakers on possibilities.

John Wasik, Chair of the Lake County Legislative Committee, said, “Our partnerships at both the state and federal levels have helped bring several large infrastructure projects to the finish line. These funds will go a long way to support clean and accessible water systems in our county.”
