Man Arrested In 115 MPH Police Chase With Child Passenger
A man from Illinois was caught early Sunday morning in northwest Indiana after taking police on a chase and going over 100 mph before hitting several other cars.
ISP said that at 3:53 a.m. on Sunday, a trooper patrolling the area between I-80 and I-94 near Kennedy Avenue in Lake County saw a Chevrolet SUV going too fast. The policeman also saw that the front end of the Chevrolet SUV was badly damaged. ISP reported that the car was going 115 miles per hour.
The driver of the Chevrolet SUV, Endris Thomas, 30, reportedly didn’t stop when the agent told him to, which started a chase. Thomas was born in Olympia Fields, Illinois.

ISP said Thomas crashed his Chevrolet SUV into three parked cars on Grant Street, where the chase continued to the corner of Lincoln and 36th Avenue. ISP said Thomas got out of the car right away and tried to run away from the police on foot.
ISP says that troopers found two weapons that Thomas reportedly dropped while he was running away from the crash scene. When the police finally stopped the chase, they used a stun gun to knock Thomas face-first to the ground.
They also said that a woman and an 8-year-old child were in the car during the chase and crash that followed. They were not hurt in any way. Later, ISP found that the damage police saw at first on Thomas’ Chevrolet SUV was caused by a hit-and-run accident that happened nearby on I-80 and I-94, close to Indianapolis Boulevard.
After that, Thomas was taken to Northlake Hospitals in Gary for medical care. He was then taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for more tests.
Thomas was brought back to Northwest Indiana and put in the Lake County Jail, where he is being held without bond because he is being held on a charge from Cook County, Illinois for failing to comply with electronic ankle tracking.
The following formal claims have been brought against Thomas:
- Two counts of carrying a gun without a permit by a convicted felon—Level 5 Indictable offense
- Possession of a drug without a permit—Level 5 felony
