Developed by Korean studio Shift Up, Stellar Blade is an action-adventure hack-and-slash game that was unveiled at the 2021 PlayStation Showcase. It had been speculated about since 2020, but never proven, until now.
Project Eve was the working title for the game until 2022, when it was renamed Stellar Blade. Playing this game is a lot like playing Devil May Cry or Bayonetta, but with an aesthetic that looks like Code Vein or another Souls game.
Having said that, the action appears to be far more hectic than the Souls series’ painstaking duels. Stellar Blade’s release is quickly approaching, but in the meantime, here is a comprehensive overview of all the information we have thus far.
Does Stellar Blade Have a Release Date?
Officially, Friday, April 26, 2024, is when Stellar Blade will premiere. Sony secured this date at their most recent State of Play presentation. Despite the game’s announcement being made years ago, a specific release date wasn’t guaranteed until early 2024, despite the intended objective being a 2023 release window.
What Platforms will Stellar Blade be On?
We now know that this game will only be available on the PS5. But it wasn’t always like that. Xbox and PC were also mentioned in the initial announcement.
Stellar Blade’s creators have stated that the game will “take full advantage” of the haptic feedback and graphics capabilities of the DualSense controllers on PS5.
Gameplay and Style
Even while the gameplay was quite similar to Capcom’s Bayonetta series, the visual design was very distinct, and the protagonist, Eve, was reminiscent of that series. A more photorealistic, if subtly anime, style is what Stellar Blade is going for. While Bayonetta is known for her outrageous style, this one is completely different.
Stellar Blade seemed to tap into the Souls series—or at least the games it inspired—at various points throughout the teaser, including Code Vein and Bloodborne, developed by From Software. The game isn’t just a mindless hack-and-slasher; the timing of attacks appears to matter.
