Legendary DJ Mister Cee Dies At 57
The iconic hip-hop DJ Mister Cee had a crucial role in the development of some of the biggest stars in the New York City rap industry, from Notorious B.I.G.’s early days to 50 Cent’s breakthrough.
The performer, real name Calvin Lebrun, passed away at the age of 57, according to Audacy, the parent company of 94.7 The Block, a radio station where Mr. Cee previously worked and hosted a weekday show including classic hits. No cause of death was given.
Market President Chris Oliviero released a statement on Wednesday, “Tonight I share the sad news of the sudden passing of our 94.7 The Block colleague & friend, Mister Cee. A true iconic personality that left a lasting mark on the music and lifestyle culture of New York City and beyond.”
Skip Dillard (94.7), the brand manager for The Block said in a statement after Mr. Cee’s passing, “The Block family are heartbroken but thankful for a chance to work with one of the most influential figures in NYC contemporary music history.”

For 21 years, the well-known Hot 97 in New York City featured the iconic DJ Mister Cee, a native of Brooklyn. In addition, the radio station issued a statement regarding his passing on Wednesday.
The statement said, “As a family at HOT 97 and WBLS, we’re deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved Mister Cee. He wasn’t just a DJ; he was a pillar of our stations, bringing joy to countless listeners with his legendary ‘Throwback at Noon’ and ‘Friday Night Live’ sets.”
The statement went on, “Mr. Cee’s influence stretched far beyond the airwaves, shaping the very fabric of NYC’s DJ culture. Our hearts are heavy as we send our love and condolences to his family and the fans whose lives he touched through his music. Rest easy, Mr. Cee. Your legacy will live forever.”
As the prominent hip-hop DJ for Big Daddy Kane in the late 1980s, Mister Cee gained notoriety. Later, he assisted in introducing Notorious B.I.G., the late rap legend, as the executive producer of his iconic “Ready to Die” album from 1994.
