A disagreement about leaving a “bad trip” for a server at a restaurant in West Hollywood sparked the viral video of Hayden Panettiere and on-again, off-again boyfriend Brian Hickerson getting into a brawl at a West Hollywood hotel on Thursday. The “Nashville” star and Hickerson got into an expletive-laden fistfight outside the Sunset Marquis, according to a video obtained by TMZ and released online. Panettiere and a few others attempt to de-escalate the situation at first, but as it moves away from the hotel, they become involved in it and, at one point, end up on the ground in the ensuing scrum. In the tape, Panettiere, 32, can be heard saying “Brian, jail!” as she tries to stop Hickerson from getting aggressive, presumably referring to the fact that he’s on probation for repeated domestic violence crimes dating back to 2018. (In 2021, the sales executive pled guilty and was sentenced to 45 days in prison; he served 13 days in May.) For wounding Panettiere, he received four years of probation, 52 domestic violence seminars, $500 in compensation, and a five-year protective order.)
When reached by phone on Friday, Hickerson declined to comment. However, Panettiere’s spokesperson stated that the “Nashville” actor was unharmed following the confrontation. “While in the restaurant of the Sunset Marquis Brian Hickerson, who happened to be with Hayden, made a comment to an individual about leaving the waitress a poor tip. That same individual along with the group he was with began badgering and shoving Brian at which point security pushed everyone outside,” her spokesperson said in an email to The Times. “Brian was attacked by the group as was Hayden who in her best effort tried to [defuse] the situation. Hayden was refused the opportunity to provide a statement to the police as she was escorted back inside. She is okay.”

Panettiere and Hickerson’s on-again, an off-again relationship made news several times. Following Dickerson’s arrest in July 2020, Panettiere issued an Instagram message, stating that she was sharing her story in the hopes of “empowering others in violent situations to get the treatment they need and deserve.”
“I am prepared to do my part to make sure this man never hurts anyone again. I’m grateful for my support system, which helped me find the courage to regain my voice and my life,” the statement said.
