BLOOMINGTON — A fatal accident involving a semi on Tuesday morning resulted in the death of one individual south of Bloomington. After receiving a call about an accident involving a car and a semi at just after six in the morning, deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the 111 mile-marker of southbound Interstate 69 near U.S. 37.

The liquid asphalt was being transported by the semi. At the scene of the accident, the driver of the car was pronounced deceased. A witness who was driving south on I-69 in the fast lane informed deputies that he saw three deer jump into the roadway and cause the victim’s automobile to crash.
The witness was also headed south on the interstate. The driver of the semi-truck said that the passenger car was parked on its side in the road without its lights turned on as he approached it, and he was unable to stop in time to avoid colliding with it.
Investigators from the Indiana State Police rushed to the scene of the accident. The Monroe County Coroner’s Office will reveal the identity of the victim as well as the specific circumstances surrounding their passing. On Tuesday morning, all lanes traveling in the southbound direction of I-69 were halted while police conducted their investigation into the collision.
