YAPHANK, New York Following a rear-end collision with a tractor-trailer on the Long Island Expressway in Yaphank on Thursday morning, a 53-year-old Bethpage lady was critically hurt, according to Suffolk police.
Police say that at 5:25 a.m., a woman was operating a 2015 Nissan westbound on the Long Island Expressway, east of Exit 67 when it collided with the rear of a 2016 Kenwood tractor-trailer that was slowed down for construction.

According to authorities, the woman was transported by ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of severe but non-life-threatening wounds. Police say the driver of the tractor-trailer, a 52-year-old male from Port Jefferson Station, was unharmed in the collision.
Police added that the tractor-trailer was examined on the spot by personnel from the Motor Carrier Safety Section and that the Nissan was seized for a safety inspection. Anyone with information on the collision is urged to call the 7th Squad at 631-852-8752, according to detectives.
