After a car accident in the north suburban Beach Park, a 17-year-old girl was detained early on Monday after she ran over a guy who was clinging to the hood of her vehicle.
A 2004 Toyota Camry driven by the girl was one of two vehicles that a Lake County sheriff’s officer witnessed speeding away from a business in the 37800 block of North Sheridan Road at 1:30 a.m., according to a statement.
According to the Lake County sheriff’s office, while the deputy tried to stop the teenager, he saw a man hanging to the hood of her Camry and signaling for assistance.
After the second car passed the deputy and drew up next to the girl’s Camry, she swerved and came to a sudden stop, sending the man flying off the hood. The woman then allegedly drove the man over before taking off, according to the sheriff’s office.
The victim, a 19-year-old Waukegan man, was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries, and the deputy accompanied him there.

Officials claim that the second vehicle followed the Toyota for some time before calling sheriff’s dispatchers to give its location. On northbound I-94, a deputy saw and chased the Toyota. Stop Sticks were used to stop the car around milepost 41.75, close to Rosemont.
The Winthrop Harbor girl and her two passengers were detained and transferred to the criminal investigations division of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, where they are still being held.
Investigators claim that after a small collision, the Toyota left the Beach Park establishment. According to the statement, the 19-year-old male tried to help after the collision and leaped onto the hood of the Toyota to escape being hit.
Charges were not further described, and the Lake County sheriff’s office is still looking into the event.
