According to a tweet posted by the police department, an investigation into a gunshot that took place on a block that is home to four schools, including Sojourner Truth Independent Study, BayTech Charter School, and Rudsdale Newcomer High School, is currently underway.
The Associated Press tried to reach out to the police for more information, but they did not immediately respond to their calls. A large number of police cars and yellow tape were seen on the street in front of the schools, and students could be seen fleeing the campus on television footage.
When asked by KTVU-TV about the event, Oakland City Council Member Loren Taylor, who was present outside the school at the time, refused to provide any specifics about it and instead stated that “guns were on our school grounds where our babies were supposed to be safeguarded.”
