In residence in Gurnee, a guy in his 30s accidentally shot himself in the thigh while attempting to clean a round from his handgun, according to police.
Around 9:20 p.m. on Sunday, Gurnee police and fire departments responded to a report of a shooting in the 5200 block of Fredrick Court in Gurnee.
Shawn Gaylor, the public information officer for the Gurnee Police Department, informed the Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the event involved a careless handgun discharge.

A 9mm handgun was discharged as its owner attempted to remove a cartridge from the chamber.
According to Gaylor, the round entered the man’s left thigh and exited out the rear of the thigh.
When the police arrived, they put a tourniquet on the man’s leg to stop the bleeding.
According to fire department radio chatter, paramedics arrived and took the man, who was thought to be in his early 30s, to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
According to Gaylor, the apartment’s wall and floor were not penetrated by the bullet, and no one else was hurt in the incident.
If any citations or charges were brought, it remains unknown.
