Sadly, Friday afternoon saw the end of the search for a missing rowing student on a lake in central Florida when diving crews discovered and collected the boy’s body. He was in middle school.
After a day-long search, the missing North Orlando Rowing student was discovered on Lake Fairview at 5:15 p.m., according to Orlando Fire Department spokesperson Jennifer DeSantis. His identity is still a secret.
Our thoughts go out to the families and friends affected by this tragedy, said DeSantis on behalf of the Orlando Fire Department and all the first responders on the scene.
Following a lightning strike during practice, a boat carrying five kids from the North Orlando Rowing Club crashed, leaving the boy missing on the lake. Middle schoolers are said to be the students, according to FOX 35 in Orlando. During the strike, a different student was hurt and was taken into an uncertain condition by AdventHealth Orlando.
The final three pupils were examined on the spot and then freed. DeSantis claimed that some organizations in the Orlando region, including Orlando police, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Fire Rescue, and the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, participated in the rescue and recovery operation.
