Cameron Jackson Shooting: On Saturday afternoon, one of the two kids who were shot dead on 17th Street near Atlantic Station was laid to rest.
At The First Iconium Baptist Church on Moreland Avenue in southeast Atlanta, a funeral service for 12-year-old Zyion Charles was held at 1 p.m. Zyion Charles passed away following a shooting three weeks ago.
A march for Zyion was scheduled to begin near the Olympic Rings on Capitol Avenue and terminate in front of the Liberty Plaza Gate following the funeral.
“It is unfair. It was whole but is now only half, “Zyrhia, the boy’s twin sister, remarked. I don’t have him anymore, I say.
Six people were shot on November 26 on the 17th Street bridge during an altercation between youngsters, including a 12-year-old.

Police stated Zyion was not the intended victim. A 15-year-old boy named Cameron Jackson also perished as a result of the incident.
Two suspects, both adolescents, have now been detained by police in relation to the incident.
The family of Zyion Charles attended a city hall meeting to discuss their grief and to look for solutions to the violence that is affecting the area.
The boy’s mother claimed that her son became involved with individuals she characterized as negative influences who committed crimes including automobile break-ins.
She informed the council members that she had asked a police officer to take her son into custody seven days before to the shooting, but that she had been informed that juvenile authorities would not be able to hold him owing to their point system for detention. She added that she contacted Atlanta Police about her son several times.
