In LAKE COUNTY, IN (WANE): According to the Indiana State Police, a Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy used official time and equipment to track and harass a former girlfriend. According to a press release issued by the state police, Patrol Officer Nicholas Katalinic has been charged with Level 6 criminal stalking and misdemeanor telephone harassment.
Earlier this summer, a colleague of Katalinic’s at the Lake County Sheriff’s Office contacted state police to report suspicions that Katalinic would be utilizing department resources to track down an ex-partner, according to the police report. According to the state police press release, Katalinic is suspected of lying to 911 operators about where she had seen her ex-boyfriend, as well as accessing private police databases and computer programs.
An investigation revealed that Katalinic had repeatedly harassed his ex by calling his old number. Police say he made comments about his ex’s whereabouts and the condition of their child. Neither his present employment situation nor whether or not Katalinic has been booked into Lake County Jail can be confirmed at this time.
