The winner of American Idol in 2020, Samantha “Just Sam” Diaz, disclosed on Instagram that she was hospitalized and that she “seriously” required help. When Diaz wrote in her Instagram Story on Wednesday, she first disclosed her hospitalization “I appreciate everyone who came to check on me. I have left the hospital and am A LIVE.”
Later, on Friday, Diaz once more thanked everyone for their prayers on her Instagram story. I’m doing a lot better now, she continued. It’s unknown what disease led to her hospitalization. However, she may have provided a hint when she also uploaded a picture of a weight scale and then texted, “100 pounds is absurd. Help is desperately needed.”
Once more, it’s unknown what medical issue Diaz had that necessitated hospitalization. Later, she returned to her Instagram Story and shared videos of inspirational sayings, one of which said, “Control your response when you have no control over the situation you find yourself in. Your power lies there.” After that Story, a screenshot of a biblical verse appeared.
In season four of the singing competition show on ABC, where cameras followed her around her New York City apartment in the projects where she shared with her grandmother Elizabeth, Diaz had a fantastic run.
After performing “You Say” by Lauren Daigle at her Idol audition in Washington, D.C., Diaz, who made her living by singing in subways, won over the judges. In the finale, she outperformed Arthur Gunn by belting out Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” and Andra Day’s “Rise Up.”
