Authorities said that a man passed away on Friday, only hours after being booked into the Lake County Jail. The 51-year-old, who has not been identified, was discovered unconscious while lying in bed in a cell at about 8:30 p.m., according to a statement from the Lake County sheriff’s office.
According to the sheriff’s office, the individual “looked to be okay” during a routine check approximately 30 minutes before a correctional officer discovered him unconscious. Correctional officers, jail medical staff, and Waukegan paramedics conducted CPR and other life-saving techniques on him before declaring him dead, according to the sheriff’s office.

In the man’s death, authorities do not believe there was foul play. He was isolated in his cell, according to the sheriff’s office, and had “many underlying health concerns.” After being taken into custody in Barrington for allegedly breaking a restraining order, officials said he was put into jail shortly after midnight on Friday.
Monday’s autopsy is scheduled. The Major Crime Task Force of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office is looking into the matter.
