DURHAM — State police say that an axe was held up to a delivery driver trying to drop off packages on Saturday night.

The Connecticut State Police said that Michael Salvatore, 41, was arrested because of what happened. Salvatore was held on a $5,000 bond and charged with second-degree breach of peace and second-degree threatening. On Monday, he was going to be set in the state Superior Court in Middletown.

State police say that around 6 p.m. Saturday, troopers from the Connecticut State Police’s Troop F were called to an apartment building in Durham’s 30 block of Commerce Circle after a resident, and a delivery driver got into an argument.

State police say the driver told them the accident happened when they were trying to deliver packages to an apartment in the building.

When the driver asked for proof that Salvatore was the person who was supposed to get the package, the man gave the driver his Social Security card, which did not meet the requirements, according to state police. State police said that the driver said they told Salvatore that he needed a photo ID.

State police said Salvatore left and returned with an axe, telling the driver to go the packages.

State police say that the driver did what he was told because he was afraid for their safety. State police said that no one was hurt.

State police say that once the driver was far enough away from the apartment building, they called their boss to tell them what had happened.

State police say that when they went to Salvatore’s apartment after talking with the driver, they saw an axe close to him when he answered the door. State police say Salvatore refused to help them with their investigation.

State police said he was arrested, and the axe was taken as proof.

State police say that after Salvatore was arrested, he was taken to the Troop F headquarters in Westbrook to be checked out. Then he was taken to the Hartford Correctional Facility to wait until his court date.
