LAKE CITY Rates and fees for visitors to Missaukee County parks will rise by 10% to 15% in 2023. During a recent regular meeting, the county board authorized the park rates and fees for the following year. Board Chair Dean Smallegan stated that the county believed they were less expensive than they should have been in comparison to comparable parks.

Instead of being on the low end, he remarked, “We’re going to take that opportunity to go back up into the center of the pack.” “Because we have a good park and we believe people will support it even with a little higher set of fees,” the respondent said. Visitors will notice a $4 increase in daily vehicle permit prices and a $25 increase in annual permit prices starting in the next year.

Before June 1, 2023, Missaukee County residents and property owners can acquire annual permits for $15 apiece. Daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal camping rates for electric sites and full hookup sites will increase. The costs for renting rustic cottages, homes, and pavilions won’t change.

Smallegan said they are going to restrict the number of seasonals even though he anticipates the additional prices to have little effect on the park. We’re going to trample on some folks who are nearby and some who are far away, so it will hurt some of them, Smallegan added.

There aren’t many spots available for guests who wish to remain at the park for only a week or a few days, according to Smallegan, who noted that around 90 of the 120 lots are currently in the full seasonal program. Smallegan stated that they aim to provide more guests with that opportunity by eliminating seasonals.

“To have what 15% of the lots accessible for the year, that’s not much of an opportunity,” he said. “For somebody who wants to come here on a weekend or for a week, that’s not much of a chance.” People who reside close by frequently express their belief that it is not worthwhile for us to even attempt to apply. The park is providing a 10% reduction on all fees for 2023, according to Smallegan, to entice more Missaukee County people to stay there. He stated, “I believe that is a kind gesture that makes it more appealing for a county resident.”
