Leesburg Florida —
Beginning April 9, LakeXpress Route 2 will have four additional Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant bus stops and a new travel route in downtown Leesburg.
The bus will travel in a circulator pattern on Main Street, turning left on Canal Street southbound, turning right on Magnolia Street westbound, turning right on 12th Street northbound, and turning left onto Main Street westbound to continue its regular route.
“We have worked closely with the City of Leesburg to reroute LakeXpress Route 2 and identified bus stop locations where Leesburg patrons could more safely board and alight,” said Olanrewaju Adelekan, Fixed Route Coordinator with Lake County Public Transit. “In doing so, we have also been able to replace prior bus stops with four new ADA-compliant stops.”
The new bus stop locations are at Main Street and Kaolin Street near the Leesburg Library, Magnolia Street and Palmetto Street, Magnolia Street and 7th Street near LifeStream Behavioral Center and Main and 13th Street – which will in the future include a shelter, bench, trash bins and solar lighting.
The changes will not affect the existing Route 2 schedules. However, flagged down pickups along Main Street will no longer be accepted.
