After killing a 17-year-old teenager who was eating a meal in a McDonald’s parking lot on Sunday, a San Antonio Police Department officer was dismissed, the department announced.
The unnamed officer was fired for failing to follow the agency’s “tactics, training, and procedures,” according to police. The department classified the unnamed officer as a probationary officer with seven months of experience.
According to a video statement from the SAPD, the officer was attending to a separate disturbance incident at the McDonald’s on Sunday night when he spotted a vehicle that he thought had eluded police the day before and requested assistance.
Police have released body camera footage that shows the officer approaching the driver’s side of the car, opening the door, and ordering the driver out before backup officers arrive. The teenager, who was eating in the driver’s seat and was obviously shocked, put the car in reverse and began backing up.

According to the video, the policeman then shot the automobile five times. Body camera footage captured the officer firing five more rounds as the car moved forward and the driver shifted the wheel.
The teen was discovered a block away, according to the SAPD, with multiple gunshot wounds. According to officials, one of the car’s passengers was unharmed.
The adolescent was still in the hospital as of Wednesday, according to the police, and was charged with assaulting the officer and fleeing arrest in a vehicle. The officer claimed the teen struck him with the door of the car as he backed up.
The Bexar County district attorney’s office informed the teen’s defence lawyer, Brian Powers, on Friday that prosecutors will not be pursuing charges against his client. A representative for the district attorney’s office pointed CNN to the county’s online court record database, which shows that both charges have been dropped and the case has been resolved.
Powers stated, “We beg for prayers for [the teen] and his family,” noting that his client was still receiving medical attention for his wounds.
The Bexar County District Attorney announced in a statement that his office’s Civil Rights Division would be considering the police shooting and the charges against the youngster. The SAPD said it is investigating the incident and will provide its findings to the DA.
