According to reports from the Chicago Police Department, four teenagers were shot on Friday afternoon near the Benito Juarez Community Academy in the Pilsen neighborhood. Two of the shooting victims lost their lives.
According to the Superintendent of Police for the City of Chicago, David Brown, the shooting occurred on Friday afternoon while students were leaving school. Two victims died at the scene, while the others were in critical condition.
Tom Ahern, a spokesman for the Chicago Police Department, stated that the incident occurred outside of the school. Since then, Chicago Public Schools has given the “all clear” signal to pupils inside the building. There is currently no one being held in custody.
Brown stated that “several bullets” were fired, but he could not clarify exactly how many were fired at this time.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Chicago Public Schools, Pedro Martinez, stated, “We’re Going to Get the Facts,” but “First, as the Superintendent indicated, we want to ensure that we Have the Victims in Our Prayers.”
