Mount Dora, FL –
Deputies on Monday identified the man found shot to death early Saturday a few blocks from a large party venue in Mount Dora as a 21-year-old Orlando resident.
Steven Charlostin, who had attended what was billed as “one of the biggest parties in Central Florida,” was found dead inside a car about 2:30 a.m. in the 2000 block of Sheridan Road in unincorporated Mount Dora, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
Another man was found nearby with gunshot wounds and is in stable condition after being taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center for surgery, deputies said. His name was not released.
Detectives are investigating the shooting including trying to determine a motive, deputies said.
Charlostin was seen at the Mieluz Grand Hall, an events center located in a former Publix on Old U.S. Highway 441, deputies said. The promoter oversold tickets for the party at the venue with a capacity of 250, leaving about 300 people in the parking lot, Mount Dora police Chief John O’Grady said.
“It [the Mieluz] has been open for about eight or nine months,” O’Grady said. “It’s a banquet hall, for lack of a better term, and we’ve never had an incident before.”
Law-enforcement officers from six agencies responded to the shooting at the venue, where more than a dozen off-duty law officers were working security for the Mieluz Grand Hall, officers said.
“This was not a rave, this was a DJ, who has a following, and that’s it,” O’Grady said. According to a online flier posted on Twitter, the party featured music by Fatstar and DJs Too Wavy and Koolaid.
Deputies said the Mount Dora shooting was unrelated to a shooting in which two people were shot Friday night in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart at U.S. Highway 441 and Eudora Road in Mount Dora.
