Since hurricane season which begins on June 1 is less than a month away, coordinated efforts between local officials and media outlets are part of the efforts to ensure readiness, in addition to individual house preparation.

On Tuesday, a cooperative initiative in Lake County was explained. Its goal is to provide communities with the knowledge and resources they need to prepare for impending storms by distributing important information to locals.

Attendees included emergency management personnel, government leaders, and members of the media. The goal is to plan how to inform the public about safety precautions and preparedness requirements in an efficient manner.

“If we collaborate well, people are going to know what they need to know,” Sarah Lux, spokesperson for Lake County Emergency Management said.

During panel discussions, attendees discussed how to improve communication techniques when it matters the most.

Director of Lake County Emergency Management Megan Milanese continued, “We’re going to run a really tight ship to make sure that our response is focused and it meets the needs of our community.”

Milanese asked locals to evaluate their risks and gather supplies so they could create thorough storm preparations. She said, “We’re all here for the same purpose, and that purpose is to make sure the people who live in our communities have the tools that they need to weather the storm.”
