A Poets Laureate Reading will be held as the last event to wrap up this year’s programming as the Lake County Library’s 2023 NEA Big Read draws to a close.
On Saturday, March 25, 2023, from 1-2 pm, the Lakeport Library, situated at 1425 N. High Street in Lakeport, welcomes the public to the closing celebration. Georgina Marie Guardado, the Lake County Poet Laureate for 2020–2024, the Literacy Program Coordinator for the Lake County Library, and special guest Lee Herrick, the next State Poet Laureate of California, will perform at the reading.
Guardado and Herrick will be joined by a carefully chosen group of Poets Laureate, including Kansas State Poet Laureate Emerita Denise Low, Alameda Poet Laureate Kimi Sugioka, and Ukiah Poets Laureate Emeriti Linda Noel and Jabez Churchill. Both original writing and chosen poetry by Natalie Diaz will be presented by each Poet Laureate.
The Friends of the Lake County Library and the Lake County Literacy Coalition are sponsors of this event, which is organized by the Lake County Library. Many business and community partners and supporters of the 2023 NEA Big Read are also invited to the event to commemorate the program’s triumphant comeback for the first time since before the Coronavirus outbreak.
